A life, distilled.

When a CV just doesn’t cut it, sometimes it helps to visualise the strange and circuitous path that led you to where you are today. It certainly helped me make sense of the seismic shifts in my life.

Timeline

Local Heros

In this issue, The Cocktail Lovers look at the growing movement in hospitality to highlight local ingredients and support smaller suppliers.

While many have become accustomed to having any kind of fresh produce, any time of year and in any location, some bar owners and operators look to local, seasonal products for inspiration and for the good of the planet. The impact of this movement, should it continue to gather momentum, won’t just be a treat for the palate - it will have a positive impact on our beautiful planet and all of its inhabitants. Here, we celebrate those who are spearheading the movement for all the right reasons and with the most delicious results.

Transparency and Accountability
at Severn Trent

Water is our most precious resource. As the public becomes increasingly aware of damage done by the waste water to public waterways and the industry’s wider impact on the environment, it has become even more vital that water companies provide clarity and transparency on their plans for reviving, protecting and preserving the water that sustains us all.

Severn Trent aims to lead the industry in innovation, investment, and reporting standards. This report lays out their roadmap for achieving ambitious goals across ESG areas and provides key insights into their activities to date.

The Age Debate

The Cocktail Lovers deliver another fabulous and fun fact-filled issue, centred on the marvellously nerdy subject of numbers.

In a world where NAS (non-age statement) whiskies continue to gain respect and market share around the world, this article offers ‘for and against’ arguments on the importance of an age statement. Personally, I love the breadth of creativity that the rise of NAS has brought about in the whisk(e)y world, and I relished the opportunity to take on the opposing perspective in this piece.

Avallen always strives to do more

Avallen is on a mission to be the world’s most sustainable spirit, aiming to be as transparent as possible about their journey. The purpose of this report was not only to drive accountability, but also to share the lessons they’ve learned with the wider industry, in the hopes that they can inspire other companies to choose a planet-positive path.

The More Report is one of several sustainability reports that I have wirtten (and the only one that I can share publicly), in sectors ranging from FMCG and personal care to technology and real estate development. This type of complex copywriting has become something of a ‘side hustle’ that I am excited to pursue.

Drinks Degrees of Separation

The Perfection issue wasn’t really about perfection at all - it' was dedicated to the people who push themselves to bring their game, up their game, or invent a whole new game altogether.

This article focuses on the perfect temperature for a variety of drinks, and why that matters (spoiler alert - there’s no single right answer, but it was fun asking the question).

A love letter.

When asked whether I prefer London or New York, my answer is always a resounding (and perplexing) “yes.” Both cities have carved out pieces of my heart, and this opinion piece is an ode to their wholly different yet equally captivating qualities.

This was published some time ago, and represents my UK editorial debut. I went on to be a contributing editor for BarLifeUK, and I still credit Andy and Simon for saving my sanity and sending me on some extraordinary press trips.

London vs. New York

Going off-road to find the right path.
